Raider Stadium
Home to one of the top football programs in North Carolina, Raider Stadium opened its gates in 1972 with the first season of Richmond Raider football, track, and soccer. Designed to comfortably seat 5,500 people, but known to hold more than twice that many, Raider Stadium has become known as one of the favorite stadiums to visit by fans of surrounding schools and throughout the state of North Carolina. Long metal seats stretch out across concrete levels 20 rows high. Seven columns of seats, divided by walkways, stretch out across the home side from end zone to end zone. Only five columns of seats can be found on the visiting stands reaching out from 20 yard line to 20 yard line. The center section of seats on the home side is set aside for reserved seat ticket holders during Friday night football games. All seats on both sides of the field are labeled by letters and numbers. The letters represent how many rows high and the numbers represent how far left and right the seat can be found.
Raider stadium is well-known for its large hills to the left and right of both the home and visitor side stands. Many spectators choose to sit on the grassy hillsides to watch the games. You often find children playing on the hills adding to the family atmosphere found at Raider sporting events. Concessions can be found behind both stands and can often be found behind the east end zone near the scoreboard. Large restrooms can be found not only on the home side, but on the visitor side as well. RSHS does great work to accommodate its guests to Raider Stadium and keep them happy during their visit to our campus. Raider Stadium even provides a press box to the visiting school and their media.
Directions to Raider Stadium can be found here.
Raider Baseball Field
Located next to Raider Stadium behind the field house is the RSHS baseball field. Despite stands being located behind home plate and parallel along part of the 1st and 3rd base lines, most fans attending baseball games at Richmond bring chairs and sit along the hillside next to the football field. Many even park at the top of the hill and watch from the comfort of their own cars. The Raider diamond is located down an incline on all sides. Trees wrap around the outfield fence and along the top of the northern hill blocking out distractions from traffic going down highway 74. A brick wall at the top of the staircase at the entrance to the field also provides good seating for those in attendance. Restrooms are located at the top of the staircase and can be found at the rear of the field house. Concessions are located behind the press box and there are even picnic tables to gather around and enjoy your treats.
If you are visiting the school, look for the baseball entrance located at the western side of the football field. (behind the endzone that is not located next to the US1 entrance) Parking is usually available on the grass around the gate to shorten walking distance.
Raider Softball Field
The Lady Raiders' softball field is located on the South side of campus next to the Washington Street entrance. Even though the softball field is located next to the South Gate, you must enter through the North Gate (US1 Entrance) to attend. The South Gate is closed during softball games. The first base line runs parallel to the road that cuts through campus. Parking is located along this road and a side road running down the third base line. These parking spots are located dangerously close to the field, so to avoid damage to your car, you may want to park in the lot closer to the school (teacher’s parking lot) or remain along one of the two previously mentioned roads but farther away from the field. Rest rooms can be found past the outfield fence on the third base side. There are no concessions stands, but concessions are usually brought to the game and sold in the parking area on the third base side. There is also a drink machine located next to the press box. Ticket sales are located by the road before reaching the softball field. If you wish to park close to the field, you can simply pull up in your car, pick up your ticket from the vendor, and drive on through. Since the games begin at 4:00pm, take caution when coming around and onto campus since there still may be many students leaving school when you arrive. Visitor's may want to commute to RSHS by way of US 1 and US 74. Avoiding Wire Grass Road and Washington Street will help you avoid delays caused by traffic.
Tennis Courts
To reach the Tennis courts you must turn onto a side road next to the Softball field. The courts are located on the right side of the road, but the road makes a downward left turn (watch for speed bumps). Four courts are located just next to the driveway with two more courts a little farther away next to the wooded area that borders the eastern side of campus. The two courts standing apart from the others provide lighting for later games and practices. There are small stands set up next to both sets of courts for spectators. Parking can be found by the practice fields adjacent to the courts, in the nearby teacher's parking lot just up the hill from the courts (must enter the lot from the main road cutting through campus), next to the softball field, and down past the field next to the gym. Because of early start times, take caution when coming around and onto campus since there still may be many students leaving school when you arrive. Visitor's may want to commute to RSHS by way of US 1 and US 74. Avoiding Wire Grass Road and Washington Street will help you avoid delays caused by traffic.
Rest rooms and drink machines can be found in the school. Head down the incline to the school building and then up the stairs to the gym area. If the school is closed, rest rooms should be available just up the hill before you get to the softball field.
Raider Gym
The Gym at Richmond Senior High School is home to Raider Basketball, Wrestling, and Volleyball. Along with sports, the gym is used for pep rallies, student assemblies, and physical education classes. There are two levels of bleachers on both sides of the court. The lower levels are thirteen rows high and the upper levels are ten. The gym is designed to comfortably seat 1800. There are several entrances to the gym, but most are closed off during Richmond sporting events. If you are attending Raider sporting events, you must enter the gym via the lunch area entrance. Parking can be found in the main parking lot. Walk from the Parking lot towards the school and down hill into the commons area where the picnic tables are located. You should see the entrance to the gym to the left on the other side of the commons area.
Tickets can be purchased at the door, and concessions are sold just outside the entrance to the gym. Rest rooms can be found behind the upper level bleachers on both sides.
